Nokia Research Teams With MIT To Make Mobile Applications Development Easier

Although this is not major news outside the *geek universe*, IMO this ZDNET article/interview is a good reminder of the value of applications vs. value of devices. Computers are only a chunk of plastics/metals without software, same applies to mobile devices. And Nokia is seeking fiercely new killer applications to accompany speech and SMS messages by teaming up with MIT (as a side note, a very cool looking website which sadly needs a 1280×1024 resolution to be viewed without scrolling).

The list of issues to tackle is very impressive. Developers are expected to getter better developer tools which enable more robust and usable applications. For end users there is better usability (i.e. simpler/more transparent functionality like speech enabled applications), better security and better energy efficiency.
