Cell phone / Mobile accessories is a booming market. This has lead to a situation where finding interesting gadgets has become more of a task than a pleasurable moment of shopping. I did some window shopping on various cell phone specialized online shops and compared their best seller lists. And to my surprise, some of the best selling accessories are very astonishing. This is by no means an authoritative, or full scale study, but IMO it is an interesting glimpse indicating what people do with their cell phones. So read on humble reader, as you are about to uncover 5 Best Selling Mobile Accessories.
LCD Display Polish / Scratch remover
This is something I would have never believed to be #1 best seller, but that’s the way it is… In short, LCD display polish/ scratch remover gel is used to wipe out small scratches and bring new bling to worn out gadgets. The good part is that this stuff works on all LCD-displays including cell phones, iPods, scanners, laptops etc. What worries me a bit is the use of abrasives, but if it was a problem I would think there would be lots of negative reports. Especially Displex seems to be a very successful brand.
Bluetooth /USB GPS receiver
Because most phones are lacking inbuilt GPS-system, the best way to get GPS is acquiring Bluetooth / USB compatible GPS receiver. Most of the better (read expensive) models are compatible with TomTom, Navicore etc. major GPS software packages, have a strong battery life and are lightweight.
As a person who has trouble reading printed maps (especially when in car) and finding my way across the country, I agree this to a amongst the best selling items.
USB Bluetooth Dongle
If you use an older pc / laptop (IMO very common when you travel), one of the things you might be missing will be BlueTooth. Despair away, as with the help of USB Bluetooth Dongle connecting PC/laptop with Nokia (and other) cell phones is easy as saying ABC. What makes this accessory extremely usable is how easily it can make even very old devices Bluetooth compliant. All you need is a free USB slot in PC, and presto.
Memory Stick / MicroSD card
Like most people, I have a bad habit of using my cell phone as a storage device. Out-of-date contacts, SMS-messages, ringtones, music, documents, video clips etc. fill the memory of phone as I find myself too lazy to remove the data more than once a year. Acquiring appropriate memory stick or microSD card for additional storage device is definitely a good solution for ever-growing storage needs, and I can see without a doubt why the sale of flash memory is booming.
Cell phone Batteries
Tough cell phones have come a long way from the early days, they still rely on batteries. The average lifespan of battery has definitely grown, and at least in theory new batteries lasts longer than the average lifespan of cell phone is. So how come batteries are in the best seller list? One possible cause could be the alarming behaviour where people purchase additional batteries, so they can juggle between 2 or more batteries when power level goes low. Also many used phone retailers provide phones with new batteries to lure in new customers.
What amazes me that there are no environmental friendly alternatives – for example solar powered cell phones could prove very successful.
