…And They Were SMS:ing Hard Rock Hallelujah!

If you live outside Europe, one of the things you might not have heard is Eurovision song contest. In Europe, it is a big event with a 41 year old history. So how this relate to mobile lifestyle..? Currently the judging in Eurovision contest is done by common people instead of judges; and people execute their right to vote by sending SMS messages or phoning to specific numbers.

Last night was the semi-finals and the finnish representative, Lordi, went to finals. This was both expected and unexpected; after all Lordi is hard rock band in pop music band. The hype around Lordi has evolved to a magnitude you can only describe as phenomenal - Lordi has hit the news from NY Times to BBC not to mention lesser media attention. But back to subject…

There is/was also Vote Lordi website which spread the word about Lordi amongst all hard rock fans and gave instructions on how to vote, what time etc. And by voting they ment SMS messages… So yes, they did a piece of mobile history by accidentally creating a successfull movement that utilized global communications and cell phones.

And as the Eurovision finals are just around the corner I say, vote for momsterman!
